Dr. Oberlin’s research focuses on neurobehavioral aspects of addiction: initiation, progression, and recovery. He uses neuroimaging to understand how brain function relates to impulsivity and addiction risk. His team, with expertise in addiction psychiatry, neuroimaging, biostatistics, and psychology, test cutting-edge interventions for recovery support using immersive virtual reality simulations of personalized futures. These technology-driven interventions are intended to advance recovery science and improve recovery outcomes. In this presentation, he will discuss the rationale for three ongoing NIH-funded clinical trials and their preliminary findings. Future directions and the role of technology in the clinic will be discussed.
